Police pensioners seek better facilities

The government should review its decision to exclude pensioners who retired from the police force before March 31, 2010, from the order issued to consider training period as service, a resolution presented at the 30th annual conference of the Police Pensioners Association urged here on Tuesday.
It also asked the government to set up an institution for the rehabilitation of retired police personnel in the lines of the Ex-Servicemen Development and Rehabilitation Corporation or the Sainik Welfare Board. Retired hands should be included in the police insurance scheme.
A super specialty hospital should be set up for in-service personnel as well as retired policemen and their dependents. Pensioners should be exempted from paying toll tax, house tax and parking fees, the statement said.
Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan inaugurated the public meeting. DGP K S Balasubramanian delivered the keynote address. Association president A K Venugopal presided over the function.
