Police ignoring assault cases, claims senior citizens' forum4
--
MARGAO: Forum for Senior Citizens of India, Goa unit, claimed that the police try to hush up cases wherein children of the senior citizen harass and physically assault them.
"There have been instances where the police have ignored such cases as a non-cognizable offence, in clear disregard of the rules that aim at protecting the life and property of senior citizens," said forum president Diago Da Costa.
Claiming that the existing rules are not stringent enough to protect senior citizens, the forum appealed to the state government to incorporate punitive action to be taken under such cases, as the police advise the victims to approach the court of law to redress their grievances.
